"After two long years of excruciating abdominal pains and multiple sonograms and ultrasounds and small bowel follow-throughs, the University of Virginia Medical Center finally located a constriction in my small intestine that they said needed to be surgically removed. "I am a fourth year orthopaedic surgery resident at the University of Colorado and sister-in-law to Bob Clickner. My own patient experience with Bob came this fall when I was home for Thanksgiving and told him I had been having some low back pain. I had a car accident as a teenager and also have bilateral pars defects with a mild L5-S1 slip; I have had back pain off and on but have never done anything treatment-wise, other than stay in shape. I was, ironically, on my spine surgery rotation last fall, and my back pain was acting up. Bob gave me two 45-minute treatments. "I first went to Robert Clickner because my shoulder was frozen. I could not put my hands in the small of my back in a parade rest position. I had gone to a chiropractor, an acupuncturist then a orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon had me try anti-inflammatorys but there was no results. He suggested three possible courses of action, physical therapy, cortisone or surgery . After the physical therapy failed to demonstrate an improvement, I asked about surgery. I was told that it would relieve the pain but not improve the range of motion. We agreed to put it off. I went to Bob. After several visits there was noticeable improvement . [A recent thank you note] "Thank you for the tube of burn ointment that you gave out during the last open house. I am in Costa Rica this month and I brought it with me just in case I accidently got sunburned. Last night I burned my shin badly on the top of the oven door while it was open. I was in the middle of putting a nice dinner out for several guests and was amazed at how much it hurt. I used some ice and some honey, but it throbbed. Then I remembered the ointment and applied it to the burn. The pain instantly left, I forgot about it and continued with dinner. This morning I realized I had burned myself badly enough to receive a few large blisters which was a complete surprise as there was no pain. "A couple years ago, while parking a small sports car, I was hit from behind by a Chevy Suburban at about 20+ mph. "I was introduced to Robert Clickner by one of my martial arts students about 4 years ago. As a result of a surgery several years ago and the normal wear and tear involved in martial arts training, I had a problem with the alignment of my jaw. "Under the heading of DON'T DO THIS, I put a bottle of old Gorilla Glue (very sticky, thick superglue) in the microwave to reliquefy it. When I picked it up, it exploded in my face; a thick diagonal line from my left eye to my right jawline. The boiling hot glue went around my glasses and completely coated my eyelid, eyelashes and eyebrow. The skin came off me in rags, the pain was incredible, and I was sure I was permanently disfigured -- it looked like more than 25% of my face probably was. I put my head in the shower and called the emergency room, poison control and then my mother, who came right over and gave me a Chinese burn ointment from Mr. Clickner. I applied it right onto the raw burns and it really brought the pain down right away. At the emergency room, all the nurses were so sorry for me when I told them I was getting married soon, since they were sure I'd be scarred. After checking that there was no damage to my eyes, they gave me conventional ointments and referred me to a Johns Hopkins burn clinic for "second degree partial thickness" burns. On the recommendation of Mr. Clickner (whom I had spoken with by this point), I continued to apply the Chinese ointment instead, as he explained that it would control the pain and speed healing. At the burn clinic the next day, the doctor asked me several times when I had burned myself, because the redness was already receding in the less burned areas. He said that in two weeks I should look fairly normal and not to worry. But it has only been one week as I write this, and except for the missing eyebrow and eyelashes I already look almost normal! My cheek, which had a huge thick layer of skin come right off as I was desperately rubbing the glue off me, has a light pink streak on it and no thickening or scarlike texture. All my colleagues and students are actually asking me what I'm using because this is amazing. I'm going to keep some of this ointment in my kitchen and classroom from now on."
"My lower back had been bothering me so long I thought I was going to have to live with it forever. I was pretty much in pain most of the time, except when I just sat around like a blob. Bob and I discussed my condition and started to suspect that it all stemmed from running in "dead" running shoes about 8 years back, and that it was my feet that needed treatment (even though they didn't hurt at all), not my back -- my back had been treated repeatedly with no results. Bob went to work on my arches and heels, releasing old tension patterns and breaking up scar tissue. Within one treatment, my back felt better than it had in years.
